Gold Cup Parade

Gold Cup Parade

The Gold Cup Parade is the largest annual event in Atlantic Canada that takes place each year in Prince Edward Island. It is a part of the large old town celebration that takes place in Charlottetown, PEI. Every year the Parade attracts over 100 floats from businesses, communities and organizations from across the Maritimes; multiple marching bands from the Maritimes, Quebec and, occasionally, from the United States, as well as numerous horse, car and clown entries. For the last number of years, the parade has also featured the much-loved huge helium filled balloons brought from Windsor, Ontario.

Saucer Races

In addition to there being a large Parade, there are also races that are included within the event. These saucer races are fun for both young and old. They are something that a lot of people enjoy watching and they normally take place before the parade begins so that everyone can have fun watching the saucer races.

Summer Season

The Gold Cup Parade started back in 1962 and it has simply taken place each year since. It is a popular event, which is why this tradition keeps on going. It is typically one of the parades that it most popular during the holiday summer season on Prince Edward Island. The reason for the parade continuing each year is not really known beyond it simply being a really popular event that is a big draw in Canada.
The theme for the Gold Cup Parade can range from year to year and it is not always the same. In the past there have been sports themes and all of the floats that are involved in the parade are created with the theme in mind.

The Gold Cup Parade is celebrated each year on the third Friday of August in the province of Prince Edward Island.
