Keeping track of all the Canadian holidays that have been commemorated with a day in their honor can be a bit tricky. There have been a high number of days that have been set aside for celebration or remembrance. Nunavut Day is one of the Canadian holidays that is celebrated, but it is celebrated mostly by the people of Nunavut. Nunavut makes up a large portion of Canadian territory, but it has a small population in comparison top the amount of territory that it compromises. In 1993, a Nunavut land claims the agreement was signed that gave the land to the Inuit people that live in this region. This means that on the day that the land claim agreement was signed back in 1993, Nunavut is celebrated every year on July 9th.
It is Unique
Even though Nunavut is a part of Canada, it is a bit different than other territories that make up Canada. It still only has a court system that is made up of one level. In all other territories that make up Canada, the court systems have three levels, but in Nunavut, there is only one level to the court system. This is something that makes Nunavut a bit different and why sometimes it is seen as separate from Canada even though it is recognized as being a part of Canada.
Potential
Even though parts of Nunavut are not lived in and have not fully been explored, it is only a matter of time until these lands are researched and explored in a way that can benefit everyone. The Inuit people might have been given the Nunavut land, but it is still there to be explored and to offer a lot of information for those that are willing to do the legwork. The temperatures in Nunavut seem to be what keep many people away.
